Instructors and DJs
Susana Miller (Argentina)
Susana Miller is the most prominent teacher in the world today of the "milonguero" or "apilado," which is the social style of tango danced in the crowded clubs of central Buenos Aires. She is a native of Buenos Aires and has been dancing and teaching tango since the late 1980s. She has made annual teaching tours to the United States and Europe since 1994. Clarin, the major Buenos Aires daily paper, called her one of the four most important influences on contemporary tango, along with Miguel Angel Zotto, Gustavo Naveira and Gerardo Portalea. It is very likely that more people have been put on the dance floors of Buenos Aires by Susana than any other single teacher.
She will help students improve posture, axis, grounding, breathing, balance, and sensitivity to the lead and follow roles. She aims to encourage dancers to develop their own unique improvisational styles through knowledge of the music, space and body. Her classes will emphasize step quality and rhythm.
Robert Hauk (Portland)
Robert Hauk is a nationally renowned tango teacher and DJ, who has been dancing and teaching tango for nearly a decade. His specialty is "apilado" or "milonguero" style, in which he has achieved an extraordinary level of skill - sufficient even to win the praise of Buenos Aires's toughest judges, the milongueros themselves. His ability to communicate the music and the emotion has made him a highly sought after dance partner at milongas across the US.
Korey Ireland (Kansas City) and Mila Vigdorova (Russia)
Korey and Mila share a love for dancing and teaching tango. They both teach, organize, and DJ in their home communities, Mila in Moscow and Korey in Kansas City. They've each had the opportunity to dance and work with world class partners. Korey brings a lifetime of work as a musician and composer, and Mila has over 20 years training (ballet folk, tap) to enrich what they offer tango students. They met in Nijmegen, Holland, at salon El Corte, and discovered a common passion for helping dancers find deeper expression and joy by participating in the music.
